About Sazón Libre
What’s the origin story of your crew? How did you come together? Who were the founding members? What inspired your name?
Sazón Libre is a San Francisco-based DJ collective that’s been lighting up dance floors for over 12 years. Originally founded in the back of Wing Wings, a beloved chicken spot in the
Lower Haight, Sazón Libre began as a space to celebrate moombahton, tropical bass, and club bangers from across the Latin diaspora. What started as a small party with big sound has grown into a nationally recognized crew known for legendary day parties throughout San Francisco and Oakland.
How would you describe the Latin Soul Brothers Community? Who or what influences your sets the most? Genres, eras, mentors, movements — what shapes your sound?
Rooted deeply in the Mission District with its vibrant history of Carnaval, lowriders, and the iconic Pop’s Bar, Sazón Libre reflects the pulse of a neighborhood in every beat. Our sound is Mission-born and bred, shaped by growing up on cumbia, salsa, banda, lowrider soul, rap, electro, and the underground rave scene. Our music spans countries, genres, and languages, mirroring the richness of the communities we come from and represent.
How has the Bay Area shaped your identity as a crew?
We started our day parties at El Rio, an SF institution, and since then our community has grown organically, built on shared love for music, culture, and each other. For us, every event is a family gathering. We play the music we grew up on, and in doing so, create a space that feels like home.
How do you stay connected to your community outside of the booth?
Our commitment goes beyond the dance floor. Philanthropy and community giving are part
of our DNA. We’ve raised money through our parties to support youth, local organizations, and cultural causes and we’re proud to keep our events free for the people.
Where and when can we catch you outside of MINTED SF?
Catch Sazón Libre at Kilowatt every second Saturday and at Southern Pacific Brewery for our third Saturday day party. And follow us on social media @sazonlibre to find out where we’re popping up next. We’re always cooking up something!
